Water Safety
Swimming is the most popular summer activity, and the best thing you can do to help your family stay safe is to enroll in age-appropriate swim lessons. Swimming is something that people of all ages enjoy, even if it’s just putting your feet in. It can also be something that can turn dangerous in a second.
Here at Southern Indiana Orthopedics, we encourage water safety no matter what you are doing or where you’re going. To stay safe in the water, here are some tips to follow:
- Swim in designated areas
- Always swim with a buddy
- Never leave a young child unattended near water
- Young children or inexperienced swimmers should wear life jackets
- Establish family rules and enforce them
- Even if you aren’t swimming, be cautious around bodies of water
In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1 as fast as you can. If a child is missing, check the water first because every second counts. It is always a good idea to take a CPR class, just to be prepared.
