Footwear for Black Friday

Stores drastically roll back their prices for one day only, Black Friday. The biggest shopping day of the year can be stressful, exhilarating, and downright exhausting. You are on your feet for long hours, fighting crowds, and in some cases, going store to store as you do it.

As you scan the ads, create your shopping list, and map out which stores you will be going to, the last thing on your mind is what type of shoe you will wear. However, inappropriate footwear can lead to arch and heel pain.

The foot doctors at Southern Indiana Orthopedics offer the following footwear tips and tricks to help you make it through those long lines and huge crowds all while keeping pace as you race from store to store:

  • Wear a shoe that you have comfortably worn.
  • Ensure you have a good shock-absorbing insole.
  • The stiffer the shoe, the more support it can offer.

Not sure if the insole of your shoe is still in good condition? Pull the insole out and press it between two fingers. It should have the consistency of a gummy bear. If not, or if you can feel your fingers as you squeeze the insole, it is no longer providing adequate support. We recommend purchasing an over-the-counter insole to put inside worn shoes, instead of buying a brand new pair every time your insoles are worn out — remember to use the pinching method!
